Conversation With Lolle Art

//  I remember I was looking for tattoos, those famous "flash Tattoos" as Halloween was approaching, and I wanted something related to it; That was how I found the incredible art of Lorenza, better known as Lolle, a freelance artist from Italy who possesses a very good art, and that definitely inspires me. It was until recently that I was able to interview her. Hope you enjoy the answers and illustrations.

1. When you became interesting in illustration  and why?

Well, I’ve always been involved into art and creativity... my parents were crafters and they always encouraged me towards illustration and inventiveness ... so, since I remember I’ve always been with colors, paint and brushes in my hands...
I undertaken art studies, and my life always moved in this direction....then I finally decided to turn my biggest passion into a full time job...:)
2. Why illustration and not other art form?

I love art in all of its forms! but I think that I found in Illustration or visual art in general the best means of expression... despite I'm a great chatterbox, I always find better to express myself with images then words... I use illustration to describe myself and my creepy-cute world to the others...

3. About your style, why they are usually cute and dark/goth? why you decide to go to this direction?

oh well, my art-style is nothing more than the transposition of my tastes... I always loved big contrasts! I love to surround myself with objects that are both cute and creepy at the same time, and this reflects on my art! I think that these are two different parts of my personality! (hehe I'm like Harvey Dent!!) ...when I work on a painting I try to describe this two sides of myself, putting all these different elements together on the paper!
4. Can you tell your opinion about illustration´s world, how it looks thanks of social media? Do you believe is going to change in the future.?

oh I think that the advent of the internet and social madia has been a really big thing for independent artists!! this gave us the possibility to share our work and let it be known!! I think that without internet, I would never been able to work with art. I live in a really small city and here (or even in Italy in general) my work is not so well-known… my customers come from all over the world, and without social media I would never been able to share my art with the other countries! so I'm really grateful towards these means that helped me to develop my art-style and to work as an illustrator and crafter... saying that, there is also the other side of the coin...this great visibility, also let some (dishonest) people to steal and use other people's art without permission...this happens to me a lot of times =_= it's really frustrating but it's really hard for independent artists to be able to protect their work...and, unfortunately, this bad habit is taking off more and more. I heard that even big and well-known companies use to steal independent artists work without permission...and this is really  discouraging...
I really hope that in the future there will be more protection and respect towards independent arts.
 5. As a freelancer, can  you tell us the most difficult about that life style, and the best of it.

oh well, I think that the "worst" part of being a freelancer it's the continuous uncertainty... I have to live day by day, not knowing if I'll be able to keep this work forever..
but privileges are more than the disadvantages... I really love my job, it let me sustain myself doing what I love the most, and this is amazing! and it's also amazing to discover that people are willing to pay for my work!! this is so encouraging!!
here in Italy my job is not  taken seriously, some people even don't consider it a real job... this is really frustrating for me and this kind of mentality kept me from thinking about work with art in the past years... but fortunately, I found a lot of people that started appreciating my illustrations and this gave me self-confidence.
6. I am a illustrator enthusiastic, so what is your advice for those who want to be better or improve, and how to get a define style?

The best tip that I can give is to not let anything stop you! keep believing in yourself and keep fighting to realize your dreams! make anything you can to improve yourself more and more, take art lessons, buy art books, be always curious and pay attention to other artists work! the best way to develop your own artstyle is to always be open to external stimuli, let the world inspires you...and never stop learning!

7. Besides Illustration, can you tell me your other interest or hobbies?

As I just said I love art in each of its forms! I don't like so much the word "hobbies", I prefer to define my interests as my other passions!
first of all I love fashion! in my family we have a real obsession for clothes and style! Also, my grandma was a seamstress! I love fashion magazines (independent and unconventional fashion mostly), and I love to spend my time go shopping at street markets and thrift stores...my closet are always so small!!
then I love to watch movies and tv series while working, they are a big source of inspiration for me! I love 80's movies and I’m always looking for strange and odd movies to watch!
another of my passions is to "collect" toys and dolls, mostly 80's/90's vintage toys from my childhood...little by little I'm increasing a Little Ponies' stable ! then, I'm trying to recover some of my fav barbies from my childhood... and I've a little coven of Monster High dolls! I don't care about sad people that could think that this is "kid stuff"...I think that if something make us happy we don't have to care about the rest!
8. To end this interview, Here a game, a quick answers

- Last movie: Vibes (an 80’s adventure movie with jeff goldblum and cyndi lauper ♡)
- Day or night?: I love morning, most of all for breakfast that is my fav meal of the day
- One Illustrator: I’m always looking for new illustrators to follow and to draw inspiration from…maybe the first of this long list of talented people that guided me towards my artistic path has been the awesome Mark Ryden!
- Fav book: I'm a really slow reader =_='' so I didn't read a lot of books in my life, mostly horrors, fantasy, and fairytales! I don't have a fav book in particular, but if I had to choose one I think it will be Stephen King's IT... I read it at thirteen, and it reminds me my teens!
- One color: decisively PINK!!
- Quote: I don't like quotes really much...
- Watercolor or  markers: watercolors and water-soluble markers!
- A song: I don't actually have a fav song...the last one I heard was "Germ Free Adolescents" ♡

Thank you!!
