Handmade Costumes by Miss Indie

Hi Princess Corner readers! My name is Mandy and I run a little blog called Miss Indie. I'm so excited to be guest blogging today for Ruzu! I have some super cute and easy costume ideas to share with you today, all using items that can (most likely) be found in your home.
Both costume ideas are based on a wardrobe staple that you probably have in your closet: the little black dress. I got mine at Target, on sale for about $10 [yay bargain shopping!], but you can also use a black skirt and black shirt.
This Black Cat Costume is super easy! All you have to do is wear all black, get black cat ears [I got my cat ears headband from Joann's craft store for $2], and paint yourself a kitty nose and whiskers!
For makeup, I used black eyeliner for my eyes, nose, and whiskers, and used a little bit of black eyeshadow to help fill in my cat nose. Meow!
This Tim Burton-inspired costume was definitely my favorite (big surprise, right?). I had so much fun putting the whole look together. Basically what I did was pair anything that reminded me of my favorite Tim Burton movies with my black dress.....we're talking purple, black + white, stripes, black lace, etc.
For my hair, I decided to channel my inner Mrs. Lovett. The bigger and messier, the better. I let my hair air dry [it's is naturally wavy/curly], and then used some volumizing hair spry to add volume to the top of my hair and crazy it up a bit.
For my makeup, I mixed some of my everyday foundation with a bit of white face paint [from Walmart] for my face. This way my skin tone would look extremely pale instead of just plain white [which would've looked a little mime-ish]. I covered my entire face, including my eyelids and lips [yes, even your lips], and made sure to blend the color down into my neck for a natural look.
Next, I mixed some dark gray eyeshadow and purple eyeshadow for my eyes. You don't want it to be too dark [aka raccoon-y], but more of an extremely tired/dead look. I also used the gray/purple combo to contour my face and add some color to my lips.
This has been so much fun sharing my costume ideas with you! I can't wait for Halloween to get here. Dressing up is my favorite! xo Mandy

Personal Style: The Blogger Libertad Gómez.

*Today I have a very special guest, the lovely Libertad/Sahakiel from the blog Not here to please you , she is a beautiful girl, writer, coolhunter from Spain, currently living in Barcelona.

How did you start getting involved in the fashion world? From an early age I had always loved pretty everything related to this world, but it was in 1994 when I really discovered how much I loved fashion, was after buying my first Vogue magazine, with a photo story of Annie Leibovitz. At that time, with just 12 to 13 years, I was fascinated not just by what could be designing a garment, but for all other tasks related to the world of fashion: stylist, make editorial predict which can be trend, etc.

What is the style you like to use? I'm not a purist in any style, the truth, and depends a little on my mood on day. I use a lot of the Lolita (in its most punk) and pin-up/psychobilly, more focused in 'girlys' airs for the day ... now i am waiting the cold weather to dress more a Dolly Kei style, I love vintage clothing and I think it can be fun! But mostly looking styles with which to express, fashion for me is not only wear clothes but a way to show bits of yourself.
Have some references or inspiration When choosing your clothes? Also With The day varies somewhat, the truth! My references are Elsa Billgren Swedish daily fashion blogger, Elin Jhönsson That unfortunately left the blog, shop Grimoire, Japanese girls, Alice Glass recently and found it fascinating, and inspiring Swedish subculture Panda poppare'.

Your favorite stores ( from commercial to indie). Apart from the shoe brand Melissa i am not having a head shop when buying clothes; looking clothes that I like and can be both vintage and Forever 21.  I buy in Primark, Asos, Topshop, White, Zara few things ... ah, I declare big fan of Ben Sherman! I loved her female line, with an air very mods. I also recently discovered a brand from Murcia, Titis Clothing, which makes beautiful dresses. I love Sonia Rykiel designs, style and clothes over punk or goth Lolita ... But as I mention, are the clothes that I love, not brand
The garment you want most right now ...It's very silly ... but I desperately  need a pair of socks Japanese Verum brand, sold in Grimoire ... are all beautiful.

I know that you studied coolhunting, so I'd like if you give us ideas of what's coming for 2013 (either colors, styles, prints, others) I think the black will continue going strong, the goth-punk revival that we have begun to see this winter will continue, albeit with a bit naive air and interspersing more vivid, monochrome beyond.I hope that green finally stands out, I have seen in some parades. Jason Wu, showed us lace shoes and bag on his show, and I also hope it look pretty next spring; accessories with lots of lace detail but sober.

As for prints, flowers are always present at that time, but given the current situation in ever more runways of rtw more simple lines, and that also seen in the colors and patterns ... I do not know, I think will be present strongly colored block more than patterns.

Muchas gracias Libe.
Thanks Libe.

Guest Post: Fabric Jar Luminary DIY

Hi Princess Corner readers! I'm Violet from Blythe Ponytail Parades and I was stopping in to share a fun little DIY with you all today!

I recently saw a few different variations of this DIY floating around the internet and so I decided to try my own take on it! Here I have created mini luminaries out of a mason jar and an old spaghetti sauce jar!

So basically, you will layer the inside of your jar with a layer of Mod Podge and sprinkle with some glitter if you want. Then cut the fabric strips about an inch and a half wide and as tall as the height of the jar! Dip the strips in Mod Podge and lay strips inside of the jar. Make sure the strips overlap so you don't have any glass areas exposed. And that's it! Let it dry and then fill with flowers, tea lights, or whatever you would prefer.
Thanks for having me Ruzu and  be sure to check out my blog and say hi! I always love meeting new people <3 .=".">

Guest blogger: Grits and Moxie + spooky recipe.

Hello everyone!  I'm Jennifer from Grits And Moxie and I'm here today to share a spooktacular recipe with you - Evil Eye Deviled Eggs.
Since I grew up in Georgia and deviled eggs are a staple for every gathering - family, friend, etc - then I thought that this would be a fun and easy way to combine a bit of my upbringing with my favorite holiday.  This recipe is very simple and tasty too!

Ingredients
6 eggs
4 T mayonnaise or vegan/vegetarian substitute or plain yogurt (yogurt has a 'bite' to it that mayonnaise doesn't...so be sure to taste the mixture often if using it)
2 T Mustard of choice (I used stoneground with horseradish)
1/3 t smoked paprika
Lots of cracked pepper
2 grinds of sea salt
hot sauce
olives sliced in half

Directions
Start by boiling the eggs until the yolks are hard but not overcooked.  I can't tell you exactly how long to do so since every range is different.  I used the Barefoot Contessa method and I was extremely pleased with the results! Once done, run your eggs under cold water, gently crack the shells by rolling and then peel them. Allow the eggs to cool before cutting them lengthwise.

Carefully remove the egg yolks, toss them in a mixing bowl and arrange the sectioned egg whites on a plate. Using a fork, mash the egg yolks and add the remaining ingredients in small increments. Mix everything together until all ingredients are well blended. For a really creamy consistency, continue to add more mayonnaise and adjust the seasoning to taste.

Scoop mix into egg cups, set olive section in middle and then pipe or squeeze hot sauce in dabs and stripes.

And there you have Evil Eye Deviled Eggs!  Thank you Ruzu for letting me stop by and
share this recipe.  I know I gave you an eyeful of fun .

xo
Jennifer.

There are many happy things, currently I have a new lemon tree in the house, in front of my window  to be exactly, with mom went to eat vegetarian food to a beautiful house  (of another relatives)with a great view  , you can see the amazing sunset, they gave us new recipes to make changes in our meals. And the last but not the least, I have my new passport and new swim suits, if you follow my instagram you already saw this, those are the main reason of my happiness, because on Monday I am going to make a travel out of the country with my mother, we are going to stay at México, Yucatán, Playa del Carmen, my family of Germany are going to meet us there, this are my vacations of the year. About the blog don´t worry is going to work, not like always, but I have guest bloggers and another special posts.

The Raven/ El cuervo

Last week I went to see the Raven, the new movie with John Cusack, personally I am not a fan of this guy, but I think was ok in the role of Poe, I gave the movie like 6.5 stars was entertaining, but nothing special. The most cool about this movie, the dark ambient and theme, I like Edgar Allan Poe stories, I need to read more, but in general I always admired his work, my favorite tales: The Murders in the Rue Morgue, The black Cat, The Fall of the House of Usher. Here some books I found vía google, I love the art of the books, is a fantastic inspiration.

Photography: Shadows of Nature

During this golden hour (sunset) I was taking photos and Rory was there playing with her favorite teddy bear. I saw those interesting birds, and I love the result, hope you enjoy it.

Wishlist: Cute Handmade Dresses

Who said that handmade clothes are not a pretty cool investment? I also believe  in the skills of indie designers, if you have time and the most important, the money (or not), go to check their links.
